 Class Descriptions Fifteen hours of training for $50.00
($40.00 at Armory Park) Three-hour classes - one day a week - five weeks
Most topics covered in the classes below will apply to all versions of
MS Windows. Our classroom computers use Windows 7. If you have an earlier version on your home computer you will notice some differences.
NOTE: The Intro to Computers XP or Windows 7 Class is a prerequisite for all other Classes.
101-Introduction
to Computers
Windows 7 5 classes, One day a week for 5 weeks • For novice to the experienced computer owner who wants to enjoy his / her computer.
• A Tutorial to introduce hardware and software. Windows 7 operation system basics. • The class uses a hands-on approach to gain skills using the mouse, keyboard, and computer tools • Use of a mouse and keyboard based on exercise in Word Pad and Windows 7. Suggested Prerequisite: Basic typing skills.
102-Introduction
to Computers Windows
XP
5 days class, One day a week for 5 weeks

For novice to the experienced
computer owner who wants to enjoy his / her computer.

The class uses a hands-on approach to gain skills using the mouse, keyboard, and computer tools,
including file management, word processing and other applications.
Suggested Prerequisite: Basic typing skills.
200-Email and the Internet
5 classes, One day a week for 5 weeks • What the Internet is and how it works • Browsers and use of Internet Explorer • Search Engines and how to use them
• E-mail and address book using Windows Live Mail • Internet Security
Prerequisite: Must have completed Intro to Personal Computers and have access to a computer with Windows and Internet access.
201/301-Exploring Windows 7
5 classes, One day a week for 5 weeks Two Classes Part 1 and Part 2 • Learn to organize your desktop, customize Gadgets, and use Windows Explorer, search, the taskbar and shortcuts. • Understand system settings, User Accounts, printer trouble-shooting, and how to use some basic Windows programs. •
Work with file management, copying files, data backup procedures, including how to transfer data to CDs/DVDs, flash drives and external hard drives. Understand how to maintain your computer, and computer security.
Prerequisite: Must have completed Intro to Computers Windows 7 and have access to a computer with Windows 7
202/302-Exploring
Windows XP
5 classes, One day a week for 5 weeks
Two Classes Part 1 and Part 2
• Create, name, move and delete files and folders • Work with multiple open windows • Search for files and folders • System backup and restore • Maintain your hard drive
Prerequisite: Must have completed Intro to Computers XP and have access to a computer with Windows XP
203/303-Intro to Microsoft Word
2010
5 classes, One day a week for 5 weeks Two Classes Part 1 and Part 2
• Use MS Word basics (writing letters)
• Learn to create letters, flyers, business cards, greeting cards and address labels.
• Use of templates and wizards, columns, headers and footers, the Paint Program, Mail merge and tables, envelopes and labels, greeting cards and more.
Prerequisite: Must have completed Intro to Personal Computers
204-Digital Imaging 5 classes, One day a week for 5 weeks
•
Review basic camera settings; how to transfer photos to your computer and organize your photos using Adobe PhotoShop Elements; learn basic photo editing techniques.
Prerequisites: Must have completed Intro to Personal Computers and Windows XP or 7 and have access to a computer with Windows and a photo processing program (Adobe PhotoShop Elements version 6.0 or later is recommended).
304-Photo Editing and Restoration
5 classes, One day a week for 5 weeks
•
Learn advanced photo editing tools available in Adobe
Photoshop Elements to restore old photos or modify new ones.
Prerequisites: Must have completed Intro to Personal Computers and Windows XP or Windows 7 and have access to a computer with Windows and a photo processing program (Adobe PhotoShop Elements version 6.0 or later is recommended).
